Metadata Standards

Metadata is data about data. A document that explains the who, what, where, how, and why of your data. It is essential to keep track of how you create and edit your data, when and who made the data, and items descriptions and codes that make your data usable.

This section provides sources for both national and international standards, as well as a manual for easy metadata creation with ESRI's ArcCatalog.
