Compensatory Screening

The compensatory screening approach takes into account the trade-offs between screening criteria. It provides a mechanism for accounting for the compensatory character of one criterion for another. This type of screening requires a value judgment for combining the conflicting criteria. It implicitly considers the hierarchical structure of evaluation criteria, that is, the relationships between an objective and the underlying attributes. Alternatives are eliminated, therefore, only if they fail with respect to a specified value of the objective function that describes the relationships.
